Trust Stewardship

Trust funds are held for the community over time, not for short-term results. At Woodland Wealth, we bring both professional expertise and lived experience to this work. Our team includes Anishinaabe professionals from First Nations communities, and we understand what it means to care for funds that affect families, Elders, youth, and future generations.

Our focus in trust stewardship:

  • Protecting trust capital so it is available when it matters most

  • Growing assets responsibly, with long time horizons in mind

  • Providing clear reporting that leadership and members can understand

  • Supporting governance and financial confidence, not replacing it

We see trust funds as tools of community resilience, supporting housing, education, health, cultural programs, and community vision long into the future.

Why Woodland?

Woodland Wealth is an independent, relationship-driven firm. Your Nation is never one client among many. Decisions are made with you, not for you. Our advice is free from product sales, hidden incentives, or outside agendas.

We work with Chief and Council, trustees, and finance committees, respecting established governance structures and decision-making processes. We provide clear, plain-language reporting and support that strengthens internal financial capacity rather than replacing it.

Trust funds belong to the community. They are meant to support programs, services, and opportunities, today and long into the future. Our role is to care for these funds with respect, transparency, and long-term responsibility so they continue to serve the people as intended.

Based in Sagamok Anishnawbek and Kingston, Ontario, we are close enough for in-person meetings when it matters. Small enough that leadership knows exactly who is managing the money. And accountable for the advice we give.

Fee Structure

Fees for institutional accounts are determined on a case-by-case basis, depending on the size and complexity of the mandate. We are committed to a fee structure that is fair, transparent, and aligned with the long-term nature of trust stewardship.

For example:

  • Management Fees: A percentage of assets under management (AUM), typically ranging from 0.3% to 0.4%, depending on the size and complexity of the portfolio.

  • Performance-Based Fees: In certain cases, we may agree on performance-based fees, which are a percentage of the returns generated above a pre-defined benchmark.

  • Additional costs: Any additional costs such as transactional fees, custodial fees, or third-party charges are communicated up-front and detailed in our agreement.

The core management fee structure is tiered by Assets Under Management (AUM). The following is an example; each situation is unique, so this pricing is not guaranteed for your situation.  This chart is for illustrative purposes only.

Total Investment Portfolio — Core Management Fees

  • First $5M: 0.50%

  • Next $20M: 0.40%

  • Next $25M: 0.30%

  • Next $50M: 0.22%

  • Next $150M: 0.15%
